conferences

what are conferences?

Conferences are an enriching and exciting aspect of Model Congress. They are essentially national competitions in which Model Congress delegations from across the nation engage in congressional debate in different committee sessions. They last for four days (Thursday-Sunday) and each one is run by a different ivy-league university. Some conferences are located on university campuses and some are located in hotels near the university.

During a conference you will spend the weekend with your delegation as well as members of your various committees and have the opportunity to visit many new places, debate nationally pertinent issues, and enrich your political awareness.

Our club generally goes to 3-4 conferences a year; our recurring ones at Yale, Princeton, Columbia, and University of Pennsylvania. If you're looking for information on the specific workings of these conferences and debate structure, check out our resources page!

And in case you'd like to get a better idea, the official websites of conferences we attend are listed with their dates below.

how can i attend a conference?

come to our mocks!

Attending conferences is the best way to immerse yourself in the North MC experience. However, due to time and budget constraints we are only able to take a limited pool of delegates to conferences.

In order to decide and ensure that we are taking the best delegates; we conduct mocks. Mocks are where we emulate the environment of a conference for one to two days. This gives us insight into how you would perform at an actual conference and helps us gauge your potential.

We have several mocks for conferences throughout the year, so you can try and attend maybe one or even all four of the conferences we go to! Make sure you sign up for our email list so you always stay updates with mocks and conference details.
