welcome to
north model congress
what is model congress?
Model Congress is a high school club that attends national conferences which simulate the workings of the United States Congress. You create legislation and debate nationally pertinent issues with delegates from across the country. This club creates an immersive environment in which you are able to express your own views and opinions on what you think are the most important issues facing the country and ways in which we should tackle them. You will have a chance to present your ideas to a hundreds of your peers from across the nation and hear what they have to say about them.
Model Congress also allows members to develop and strengthen their public speaking skills. You learn to use your voice to express your views and the values that you stand for. You can meet many new people who both share and, more importantly, disagree with your political views. Many schools participate in Model Congress, and some even travel cross-country to conferences so you are bound to find people in both categories.
Model Congress also gives students the opportunity to visit many ivy league universities that choose to run these conferences and it can often act as a preliminary college visit. Your chairs (the people who run the conference) are also students from that university who can give great advice about life on campus as it really is.
Ultimately, Model Congress is an environment which allows you to learn about politics while having loads of fun with your team and meeting people from all over the country. Join us from 3-4 PM in room 209 on Mondays or Thursdays to learn more!
